For reading I read a story called War in Waihi and I wrote what the miners wanted to happen.

  • We want to be paid more because we are  paid less than other miners in the country and  we have  to work faster.

  • Our working conditions are terrible  like after an explosion  we have to work in the dust which can give us  a deadly lung disease.

  • We are expected to work extremely fast in all conditions  and even dangerous ones.

  • No one wants to help us because they don’t  want to cause any trouble for the mine by taking sides.

I read a story called the Grateful crane and wrote a new ending for it.

There in the room they saw not a girl but a crane, weaving her own feathers.“It cannot be!,” gasped the old man, clutching his wife's hand. The crane looked at the couple.
“Yes I am the bird you freed that day. I was granted my wish to become a human so I could repay you.” Tears flooded in the man's eyes.
“I could have stayed with you for ever but now that you know who I really am I must leave.” She stood up  and walked over to them and bowed. The old man grabbed her and pulled her over to a room and locked the door. “Now you will stay here and make as many blankets as my heart desires, and if you don’t, I won’t feed you so you better do as you're told.” So she got to work making blankets. But one day she realised that there was a  secret door hidden  in the wall and it was unlocked. One day when the couple were out at the market,  she went through the passage. The passage lead her outside. She flew away and the couple never saw her again.

A new day

The autumn leaves of red, yellow and orange, lay sprinkled on the mossy green rocks.
The mossy green rocks of all shapes and sizes are scattered along the edge of the stream’s path.
The crystal clear stream flows down through the green leafy bush.
The stream flows over the rocks, dropping steeply down forming the waterfalls that flows into a clear deep pond.
The sunlight shines down through the bush waking up into a new day.

Swamp Football

I am walking forward and getting submerged in mud while chasing the ball and slowly pushing forwards through it.
I am struggling to kick the ball through the chunky, mucky mud because I am slipping and sliding all over the place.
I am crazily running around like a headless chicken, then exhaustingly flopping to the ground after a long hard
mucky, sloppy game.

Why you should play netball

I think that children should play netball because it will keep them fit and healthy because in netball you are always doing drills and running around, doing exercises which all help to keep you fit and healthy. When your playing netball it helps you to learn how to work together as a team, how to work with others and how to communicate.By learning these skills they can use them in later life. By being part of a team and working together children will develop long life friends and they will have lots of FUN! In conclusion I think that all children should play netball to increase their health and fitness ,how to make long life friends and they have fun so that's why I think children should play netball.

Swimming sports

On your marks, get set BANG!
Shooting myself into the water.
On the 24th of April at the Gore pool between the time of 1pm and 3pm I had swimming sports.
The butterflies rushed through me non-stop, my body was shaking.
Children's chatter came from everywhere and the smell of chlorine exploded up my nose.First up I had 1 length freestyle.
BANG! Kicking as hard as I could together with my arms and legs my body cut through the water. After that time just flew by. At quarter  to three my races were all over but one - the team relay. There were four  people in the relay. I was number one, Chloe was number two, Ben was number three and Richard was number four. On your marks get set BANG! I kicked as hard as I could. As my body shot through the water, my heart was pounding and everyone from Otama was screaming at me. Touch! Chloe dives in and I yell, “Go Chloe go!” She hits the wall  and Ben swims through the water. Slam! and Richard was off! We were all yelling and screaming. It was neck and neck for second place. Smack! “Who came second?” everyone asked. Finally the races were over and we went home, still anxious to know what placings I came. But overall I had an extraordinary time and did my school proud.

Laura

Laura Whyte looked in the mirror while brushing her mouse brown hair which widely greeted her  after having a rough night with her pillow. She grabbed her hair and  tamed it, with her matching hair tie and floral head band. Her big blue eyes brighten up the day and red lips with shiny teeth that talk non-stop. Than getting dressed she pulled her trousers on over her long legs and my jersey over my arms.

summer
Standing the burning sand.
Unfortunately finding out that we have to finish our holiday.
Melting in the hot sun.
Moving sheep until I fall to the ground.
Exploding with excitement knowing that I got up on the skis.
Racing across the water in the boat.

We read a story called king and country, then we wrote a letter back to his whaea about what it was like at war.

8 September 1916
France

Dear Whaea

I am finally in France after a long boat trip stopping in England where I  joined my battalion then we sailed to France where we were posted to fight behind the front line. There is a lot of gunfire and shelling happening at the moment and it is loud and scary. I was shocked by the smell of the dead bodies and the number of injured soldiers that we pass each day. This is a sad place with many friends buried where they were shot. There is so much confusion around us every day. We have been busy digging trenches I imagined we were in a waka back home paddling that helped me to block out all the bad stuff happening all around us. Yesterday I looked up and there was Rongo standing right there in front of me.  I hugged him for ages I did not want to let him go I was so excited to have found him, I told him I was here to take him home, he said we would go home together. We both miss you so much we are thinking about home all the time love your sons.

Rongo and Tipu.

Athletics

I heard the shot put smash into the ground.
I heard a "Well done!" from the others supporting me.
I saw a smile appear on my Mum's face.
I felt my heart pounding non-stop.
I felt an exploding burst of relief.
I wondered if I could beat  my record next time.

                             The clown

Its bright red lips blurt out in laughter, his crazy orange hair springs out the side of his head and his dark blue eyes stare right through me. His huge red nose makes people laugh silly and his green and purple bow tie spins around.

My favourite time of the day

Splish, splosh, splash BUNT! The calf milk
splashes across my face and a dribble slides down my face and into my mouth with a discusting  powdery taste. My favourite time of the day is between 6 and 7 pm on a sunny warm spring evening. This is when I get to go out with mum and feed and play with the animals. I like this time the most because I can lie in the grass, snuggled up to my lamb, smelling her sweet scent and listening to the silage wagon rumbling around the wintering shed feeding out the grass. I watch the motorbike, crossing the paddock with the dogs on the back ready to jump off and help if there is a problem.
